I make photopolymer intaglio plates from my photos to satisfy my love of both photography and printmaking. Contrary to popular belief, I dislike production printing and prefer to see each print as an individual image with ink choices and the addition of collaged material. Each color addition requires a separate plate. Intaglio means that there are recessed lines in the plate which I ink and remove excess ink and print under pressure on an intaglio press.
I am fascinated by ephemera and feel it adds to the color and texture of each print. I use a camera, photoshop and other software to make my plates. I pick up and recycle anything that looks interesting. These become fair game to be included as each piece tells me what it needs to be finished.
I just had a piece selected for Texas Photography Society By Hand: Alternative Processes in the center for Contemporary Arts in Abilene Tx.. I also just had a piece in the Maryland Federation of Arts in Annapolis in the American Landscapes Exhibition. Over the years I have been fortunate to have pieces included in a number of exhibition catalogues and shows across the country.
